My abstract paintings and mixed media drawings explore the relationship between aggressive mark making and family nostalgia, conveying a domestic narrative quality. I use references from personal sketches, found family photographs, and, personal childhood objects to begin my paintings and drawings.
The mark is very important to me and presents strong emotion. To emphasize this importance, I use a wide range of media including chalk-pastel, charcoal, washes, acrylic, oil, and collage. Strong and confident paint strokes in response to family photographs evoke a sentimental domestic feeling. Currently, I am producing very small oil paintings and medium size collages exploring the weight of the paint. Alternating between varied sized marks creates an illusion of depth in the abstract and exciting environment of my paintings.
